The BEST Murfreesboro TN Pros and Cons 2023 | Living in Murfreesboro TN | Nashville TN Real Estate

Murfreesboro, TN, is a city located in Rutherford County, which is situated in the central part of Tennessee. With a population of approximately 165,000 people, Murfreesboro is the sixth-largest city in the state, and it is known for its high quality of life, low cost of living, and proximity to Nashville.

One of the biggest pros of living in Murfreesboro is the cost of living. The city is more affordable than many other places in the country, making it an ideal location for those who want to stretch their budget. Housing costs, in particular, are relatively low compared to other cities including surrounding suburbs of Nashville, which can help residents save money on rent or mortgage payments. Additionally, Tennessee has no state income tax, which further reduces the cost of living for residents.

Another pro of living in Murfreesboro is its proximity to Nashville. The state capital is just a short drive away, making it easy for residents to access all of the amenities that Nashville has to offer, including restaurants, shopping, entertainment, and cultural events. Nashville is also home to major employers, such as Vanderbilt University and Hospital, Nissan North America, and the State of Tennessee, which can provide job opportunities for Murfreesboro residents.

However, one of the biggest cons of living in Murfreesboro is traffic. As the city has grown in recent years, traffic congestion has become a significant problem. This can make it challenging to get to downtown Nashville, especially during peak traffic hours. Residents may need to allow extra time to get to their destinations or consider driving during those non peak hours.

Another con of living in Murfreesboro is the lack of natural gas in some neighborhoods. While many residents have access to natural gas for heating and cooking, others may need to rely on electricity, which can be more expensive. This can be a significant drawback for those who prefer gas appliances or want to save money on their utility bills. The great news is that you can always have propane installed which is a great alternative and then you can still have that gas stove that you love!!

Finally, the weather in Murfreesboro can be a con for some residents. Summers can be hot and humid, with temperatures frequently reaching into the 90s, while winters can be chilly, with occasional snow, which is minimal but can happen. This can make it challenging for those who prefer mild weather or who have difficulty tolerating extreme temperatures.
